The History

35 E. Gay St. also called The Historic Commerce Building was home to the Columbia Building & Loans starting in 1926. The tellers were positioned on the west wall and the vault (which still exists today) was used as the safe. Ohio Bell took over the entire five story building around 1940. During this time, a 10 foot drop ceiling was added to the bank lobby on the first floor hiding the chandelier and magnificent arching windows for almost 60 years.
